Hosting an off-season writers' residency on Hilton Head has been my dream since I arrived on the Island eight years ago. It's a win, win, win opportunity. Writers from all over the world can have a beautiful and affordable "room of their own" for one to four weeks; local vacation home owners receive off-season revenue; and the local community has the opportunity to meet and attend readings by both seasoned and promising young writers! I received my MFA from The Bennington Writing Seminars, a low residency program, and have been fortunate to have received fellowships from several writing residency programs including the Vermont Studio Center, Ucross Foundation, and The Cottages at Hedgebrook. I know first hand what a rewarding experience a writing residency can be -- both for the residents and the staff and community -- and the 843 region is absolutely the perfect spot!
